The American Marketing Association is one of the largest professional organizations for marketers. MUSE became an official collegiate chapter in 2005 and has benefited greatly as a member.

AMA holds an annual case competition for its collegiate chapters, involving a challenging marketing problem that student teams must work together to solve. Not only does it provide participants an opportunity to gain real-world experience but there is also the chance for recognition through awards.

2007-2008 AMA Case Competition (from AMA website)

The American Marketing Association's Collegiate Division along with the Collegiate Chapters Council is pleased to present the 2007-2008 Case Competition. This year's competition is sponsored by McGraw Hill Higher Education. As part of the digital exploration, McGraw-Hill Higher Education plans to launch an ecommerce portal allowing students to purchase McGraw-Hill Higher Education textbooks and study aides direct. AMA case teams are challenged with developing marketing plans for McGraw-Hill Higher Education to drive students to this ecommerce portal. The end goal is to increase traffic and sales on the ecommerce site and to further foster and develop relations with students. This case bring together two important issues for marketing students, the development and delivery of new sources of learning content across a spectrum of media and the Internet as part of an organization's business model.

2007-2008 AMA Case Team

Lara Aleman

W '09

Lara is from Jacksonville, Florida, and she is a Wharton junior interested in Marketing and Communications. She has been involved with MUSE for the past two years as a member of the Wake Forest Case Competition Team and now as a member of the AMA team. Being part of a case team allows her to familiarize herself with real life marketing issues while meeting other students at Penn interested in marketing. She spent last summer interning for the PGA TOUR doing management strategy and learning how to play golf, of course. Her interests include dance, travel and Spanish. She dreams of one day owning her own flower shop.

Sherry Bai

W '09

Sherry is concentrating in Marketing and Finance, minoring in Chinese. Her home town is in Beijing, China and Woodbine, Iowa (don't look, you really can't find it on a map.) In addition to MUSE, she is a member of the international club AIESEC as well as Wharton China Business Society. She loves chocolate, food, and all kinds of crazy restaurants. This is her first year doing the case competition.

Jason Chou

E, W '10

Jason Chou is from the Yay Area (thizz face on, please). He is concentrating in marketing in Wharton and majoring in Computer Science in SEAS. Jason is a member of Pennsix, UME, and the BSA. He enjoys taking photos, making videos, blogging irregularly, watching movies, dropping beats, and laughing.

Amanda Ganske (co-captain)

C, W '08

Amanda is a senior dual-degree student concentrating in Marketing in Wharton and majoring in English in the College.  Now in her second year on the case team, she is a co-captain on this year’s team.  After graduation, she will be heading for New York and a job in marketing consulting.

Talal Khan

W '08

Talal remains in the team for purely unfathomable reasons. Perhaps it is the entertainment value and comic relief he provides that allow him to stay on the team for a second consecutive year. He also refers to everyone by their last name; eg: Wu, Mou, Ganske, Tong which drives them up the wall. In his spare time Talal likes to cagefight, string together consulting jargon and listen to the Smashing Pumpkins.

Jonathan Kuo

E '10

Jonathan is from Cheney, Washington. He is pursuing a major in Computer Science Engineering and a minor in Economics, and enjoys eating and making sushi. Tool.

Her other involvements include Delta Sigma Pi and Alpha Phi. She really enjoys spending time outdoors, especially camping and visiting her family. Her favorite television shows include Law and Order, CSI, and Criminal Minds. She hopes to hold a marketing position dealing with Strategy or Consumer Segmentation.

Joanne Tong (co-captain)

Her two years on the case team have been extremely rewarding due to highlights like making a difference in the community with business (e.g. reviving tourism in New Orleans last year) and being able to brainstorm with smart, crazy, creative teammates. Her other passions include fine arts, performing arts, languages, traveling, trivia, media & entertainment, and good conversations over good food.
